If one takes a look at history, they might notice that the people who are most accepting to religious beliefs are those in strife. I have heard from an elderly friend of mine, whom is a Bahá'í like me, that when he lived in the ghetto (spelling?) his neighbors were happy to accept his kindness, and listen to him. Even teaching him some of their faiths in return. I have often wondered why we, humans as a whole, have trouble explaining why we believe what we do without arguing and insulting.

Well, the obvious answer is obsession with one sided view. When someone is fed with too much one sided view, believing that what they believe is the only truth, they began to put up a defense when they see views that are conflicting with their belief.
